Gezira Prep School
by Stephen Day

While researching for my second book of short
stories, I Googled the Gezera Prep School, which I
attended between 1949-52.
At the time, my father got the job of technical
director for BOAC in Cairo, so all of us moved
from England to Cairo. After an amusing stint at a
French convent, I started ''proper'' schooling at
Gezira Prep - and haven''t looked back since!
We Brits were kicked out of Egypt in 1952,
whereupon I lost contact with friends I made at
school. However, writing this particular short
story has brought back a flood of memories.
This has me wondering what has transpired at the
School since those days so many years ago.
My parents were members of the Gezira Sporting
Club, and the Cairo Yacht Club, and I remember
them both vividly.
I would be interested to hear more about the Prep
school.
Warm Regards,
Stephen M. D. Day.
Washington, DC.
