They ve even scratched beautiful old school buildings
by Ahmed Kamal.

Dear Joe

Imagine what also...

The stupid mediocres have scratched the old school buildings, built stupid new extensions with totally different styles It looks like a silly plastic surgeon who operated on a princess from the Renaissance era to convert her into some kind of a modern freak and he even FAILED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love old Heliopolis it makes me feel that these are the buildings and streets of the golden 1940s & 1950s.. even the 1960s and early 1970s are okay they make me feel that this was the age when Egyptian youngsters were thinking in a sort of a socialist egalitarian way.. but late 1970s onwards .. they project a feeling of mediocrity that I cant even describe may be I can attribute this feeling to some socio-political factors, but it remains there

During my AWFUL years in the school, it was like I m being forced to DIGEST and ASSIMILATE the idea/feel and lifestyle of mediocrity..

The point is: when u were in the school, it was a sort of an international school we have a few of them nowadays.. but they r quite expensive they r not under the supervision of the STUPID Ministry of Education in Egypt.. but they signify the fact that in the new Globalization / Capitalist world system, u ve got to have money to buy your own humanity

I really envy you joe.. I used to see old school magazines (even in the 1960s after it was nationalized, but was moving with inertia) Remember this: you need to have a CIVILIZATION in a country so that this country can preserve good and human things in it
